Good News For Michigan’s Medical Marijuana Card Holders

Now that Michigan will begin collecting taxes on April 20th for the newly passed wholesale marijuana tax, there may be a silver lining for Michigan’s medical marijuana card holders.

The wholesale tax applies to recreational marijuana retailers who have been collecting and (hopefully) sitting on this money collected since the beginning of the year when the new tax law was passed.

That means recreational prices may get even more expensive as the taxes put stress on the recreational side of the industry.

However, it has been said that medical marijuana licensed provisioning centers may not be required to pay this tax which should theoretically offer the consumer a better price at medical marijuana provisioning centers and a way to avoid the new wholesale tax altogether.

As of right now, Medical marijuana card holders who shop at medical marijuana provisioning centers already don’t have to pay the 10% excise tax, which is why some recreational retailers give card holders a 10% coupon when they shop there. But for those who gave up their medical marijuana card and have to shop at a recreational retailer, it’s going to get a lot more expensive.

This means medical marijuana card holders could be saving over 34% every time they shop at a medical marijuana provisioning center!
